Explanation Matters

When we become adults, we are so proud that we no longer have to explain ourselves to anyone else.
We can come and go as we please and make all our decisions without having to run them by anyone for approval.
But in Exodus 8, Moses reminds — and even commands — the people not to forget to tell their sons why they “do what they do”.
Why?
The reason is that it will instill faith in the Lord in their children's hearts.
When the Lord answers our prayers, it changes our mindset, regulates our emotions, brings us peace, and alters our path.
As a result, that change causes us to trust in God more deeply. He truly becomes a life-giving fountain of answers that we return to when we need to make any other decision.
Our children may see the actions we take but not know the reason behind them.
They may not know why we celebrate with great joy the freedom we have today because of the extreme bondage we were delivered from yesterday.
In return, they miss out on an essential key to their heritage: where to get answers when they need deliverance from the things that keep them bound.
When we forget to tell our children why we praise the Lord, they’ll miss out on understanding why it is imperative to follow the God of their ancestors, YHWH.

“On that day tell your son, ‘I do this because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’”
